Two PTN Professors Share Knowledge about BSF in the DGB-IPB Webinar

Tuesday, February 16, 2021, the IPB Board of Professors (DGB-IPB) together with the Association of Indonesian Professors (API) held a Webinar entitled Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Innovation (Hermetia illucens): Increasing Economic and Environmental Value, at the event two teachers Major of the Plant Protection Department became the Moderator and Resource Person, namely Prof. Dadang as moderator and Prof. Damayanti Buchori as a guest speaker. Two PTN Professors shared their knowledge about BSF from the Entomology side.

According to Prof. Damayanti Buchori “BSF can process organic waste quickly. BSF is a promising source of protein and can act as an alternative food in the future. BSF is not a pest and does not carry disease because the adult phase does not have a mouth apparatus so that it is not possible for BSF images to become pests and disease vectors. BSF is human-friendly and won't bite. BSF connects the processing of organic waste and bio products that are environmentally friendly ".

"When we talk about insects, it seems that people see them tend to be harmful, even though most insects are actually beneficial and beneficial. The percentage of harmful insects is actually low, compared to those that are beneficial. One of the beneficial insect species is the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) ” said Prof. Dadang.
