Brief History

The Department's history started in 1950 as a division of Entomology-Phytopathology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Indonesia. In 1972, the name changed into the Department of Plant Pest and Disease as a part of Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University. Department's name was altered to Department of Plant Protection in 2005.

In the beginning, the Department catered only undergraduate program (S1) and in 1976 the Department initiated graduate program for Master degree in Plant Pathology and Entomology followed by Doctoral program in 1978.

The undergraduate program became stronger when the Department received a grant through Quality for Under graduate Education (2000 – 2003); similarly with the graduate program with a grant through URGE Project (1997 - 2000). Undergraduate study program received grade A accreditation from National Accreditation Agency since 1988 which valid until 2012. Performance of the Department was alleviated through Program B competitive grant from Directorate General of Higher Education (2005 – 2007).

Linkages to international communities, private industries, other scientific institutions and NGO's have long been established. These collaboration showed the outstanding performance of the Department.
The Department of Plant Protection has been recognized to play a significant role and serve as an agent of change and transfer of technology in the development of pests and diseases management strategies. With excellence human resources, facilities as well as achievement in education, research, and community services, the Department is always advance its courage to contribute to the need of the nation.
