Insect Museum

IPB Insect Museum was inaugurated on May 20, 2005 under the name ITC (Insect Teaching Collection). In the development of ITC experience, its name changed ITRC (Insect Teaching and Research Collection) with the function as a support educational and research activities on insect. Subsequently in September 2008, the name ITRC changed to IPB Insect Museum.
Establishment of IPB Insect Museum based on the abundant of insects diversity in Indonesia and the uniqueness of some insect species are still not widely known and documented. In general, the purpose of establishing IPB Insect Museum is to introduce and provide knowledge about the insect to students, college students, and the community. The specific objectives are to support educational and research activities, especially in insect taxonomy.

 

Visiting Activity
During the period January to December 2012, recorded IPB Insect Museum has been visited by 952 people. The most number of visitors in June ( 170 people ). Based on the data, average number of visitors per month is 79.3 people. Large number of visitors (over 100 people ) are in January , May, June , September, and December. It is related to the insect collection activities by students PTN ( S1 and Graduate ), and students from other departments. Besides additional visits of students also usually done at the end of the semester , so that the relative increase in the number of visitors during the month of May-June and December-January

If viewed from the visitor category , there are several categories of visitors Insect Museum , among students ( students from elementary , junior high , and high school ) , IPB students, non - IPB students , teachers ( teacher / lecturer ) , and the general public . generally non IPB Students visited through activities that organized by IPB and cooperation between IPB with other universities. Visitors from the general students category coming through PR IPB and not through AET ( Agroedutourism ) . Visit students generally held to practice subject Biology and Environmental Management ( Environmental Practice ) , as well as for agriculture .

Internship
In Insect Museum is also often done internships. One of the internship activities that are routinely done is a student internship from the Department of Plant Protection fourth semester.
